LA Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss Reviews & Swatches

After falling in love with the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in A-Go-Go, I began my hunt for a drugstore alternative. At about $3.50 a piece on Ebay, I figured it wouldn't hurt to give these little guys from LA Girl a try. I came across a lot of mixed reviews, so here are my own personal thoughts on them.

I wanted to pick up a variety of shades: Dreamy, Obsess, Rebel, Stunner, and Black Currant.

The applicator tip is a flat doe foot applicator that is pretty stiff, not flexible.

The formula of each lipstick varies slightly, so I'll go into detail on each color now.

Dreamy
Dreamy - This shade is a brown-ish rosey shade that dries darker than it appears in the initial swatches or the tube for that matter. This one does not have any stickiness to it when dry. It also dries pretty quick. This is a great wearable color.

Obsess
Obsess - This color is a bright red with a hint of coral in certain lighting. From the swatches online, I thought it would have more coral to it but it seems to come off awfully red on my lips personally. I would call it a bright, fun, and lively red. This one has more stickiness than Dreamy but less than Black Currant. This feels less dry on the lips than Dreamy.

Rebel
Rebel - This is my favorite lipstick ever!!! I love it. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my extensive selfie session featuring this lipstick. It's not sticky, feels the same as Dreamy does on the lips. I did notice it wore off in the center inner parts of the lips with any little snacking I did though, FYI. Love this color though! Love it!

Stunner
Stunner - This color really caught my eye in swatches I saw online. It looked like it had all this dimension to it, almost like a metallic matte (I know that makes zero sense, but that's exactly what I thought of it). I thought for sure this would be streaky, but it actually applied really nicely and even layers up really well without disturbing the product underneath; however, it isn't quite as opaque as I would like it. With one coat you can still see your natural lips underneath, so although it isn't streaky, it still benefits from a second layer. It does have that dimension I was talking about it; it is a bright color, but it's also a lot deeper than I thought it would be. It's a very cool color, if you ask me. It dries down to feel similar to Obsess, not very sticky, but also not as dry as the really dry ones like Dreamy.

Black Currant

Black Currant - This is a bit sticky on the lips, although when you press your lips together it doesn't move the product or mess it up, it just has a weird feeling if you ask me. It is also pretty difficult to get to be non-streaky on the lips. I feel like the initial application is less sticky, but very streaky. When you build up another layer to even it out, it just gets uncomfortable feeling. It's kind of a lose-lose situation. This one is a disappointment so far. Perhaps playing around with it a bit more, I can figure out a way to make it work.

Here's my rating from driest to stickiest : Dreamy, Rebel, Stunner, Obsess, Black Currant

____________________________________

They are all super duper matte when they dry down, which only takes 30 seconds or so. They are kiss-proof and transfer-proof (until you eat something). Once you eat, you need to blot the lips to remove any excess oils from the food you ate, then you need to reapply in the very center part of the lips, it also doesn't hurt to just reapply the whole lip area to help even everything out again. It's not a big deal if you ask me and you can hardly tell on the lightest shades like Dreamy and Obsess. As long as you do the blotting step, the product reapplies nicely. Also, drinking throughout the day is not an issue.

I don't go clubbing, but I feel like these would be excellent for that. And I think concerts are an awesome venue for these lipsticks too. You aren't going to be eating most likely, but you might be drinking. This product will stay put and still look awesome and wear for a really long time and you don't have to worry about it smearing or doing weird things on your lips.

You can even add a small amount of lip balm on top and it won't mess these up. If you keep piling the lip balm on and rub your lips too hard together, it will start to peel up product, so keep the balm to a minimum if you need to use it.

These swatches are still wet because of the thick application, but believe me, they dry down to be totally flat matte.

My final thoughts, for less than $4 a pop on Ebay, these are an awesome steal! Yes, the colors are inconsistent in their formulation, but the ones I have fallen in love with, I have REALLY fallen in love with.

I hope this review was helpful and I hope you find a color that catches your eye!
Love,
Alaina

    1. Some kind of oil is really best to remove these.
