Flower Beauty Reviews : Lipstick, Blush, Foundation, Brows

I picked up a few new items from Flower Beauty recently. Some of these are old favorites and some are brand new products that I've been dying to try! Enjoy. 

Miracle Matte Liquid Lip Color

Cooling effect

Whipped texture

Opaque

Super lightweight

Long-wearing without looking dry and yucky

No feathering 

Transfer resistant - I wouldn't call them totally transfer-proof because I do get a slight residue on my water bottle, for example

Yet easy to remove - the bold shade does leave a bit of a stain, but overall they aren't a big pain to remove like other liquid lipsticks where you need to pull out an oil to get that color off

Melon Pop, direct window light

Overall, they are awesome, affordable liquid lipsticks. I just wish they had more colors, especially bright, unique shades, maybe some purples? I also feel like their online shades aren't super true to color, I definitely had to look up a swatch video on YouTube in order to figure out which ones I wanted to try.

Rosewood, indoor office lighting

Brow Master Mascara

The shade is a little red-brown for my liking. I prefer a cool toned brown. Opaque, can totally work all on its own. It doesn't really have any hold though, it's pretty much just color. The wand is a little large. 

Probably won't repurchase this one. I really like the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Espresso. 

Petal Pout Lip Liner

I have enjoyed these liners in the past and this color in particular is my very favorite natural, deeper, "my lips but better" kind of lip color. However, I feel like these newer liners are more creamy than the formula I first tried from Flower. I actually preferred the older, dry ones. Although the new one glides on the lips like butter, it doesn't help things stay put, which is kind of an important part of a lip liner. Still a pretty color but I swear the formula is different. 

About Face Foundation
I love this as an everyday foundation. It's light coverage and doesn't look intense or cakey. It's very comfortable and doesn't get oily or heavy throughout the day, even with my super oily pregnancy skin. It's just overall a really nice foundation and I'll continue repurchasing it.

The only downside is that it can be frustrating to use with a sponge. Sponges are my favorite method of foundation application, but because this is already such a light formula, it seems to get soaked up into the sponge a lot and it feels like you're wasting product, you end up using a lot more than if you were to apply with your fingers.

Petal Pout Lip Color
I picked up the lightest of the matte shades, Naked Blush. I love a matte lipstick. This is creamy, pigmented, and feels super comfy on the lips. The lid is clear plastic and gave me the first impression that it would be cheapy, but it's actually pretty sturdy and feels a lot nicer than it looks, if that makes sense. And the formula totally makes up for any bad first impressions based on packaging.

Flower Pots Powder Blush
I've been eyeing these blushes for awhile. I mean just look at it, it's adorable! I picked up Warm Hibiscus, a rosey blush with a sheen. Which is totally not what I normally go for. I am usually all about matte blush, I don't want anything to make my skin look oilier than it truly is. But holy crap, I am sooo glad I chose this one. It is so gorgeous.

You don't need to wear any highlighter to get the most perfect sunkissed glow with this baby. It's just beautiful on the skin, I love it. 

I hope you enjoyed this informal review of some new stuff from Flower Beauty. I'm so glad I was able to pick up a few items because it feels like I haven't bought makeup in forever! #momlife

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter In-Shower Treatment and Multi Tone Revealing Shampoo & Conditioner

If you've been following me awhile, you know that I have been using natural products to dye my hair for awhile now. If you just go to my "Hair" page, you'll see many posts about my hair adventures.

However, I'm tired of the maintenance and have decided I'm going to work on getting my regular hair color back before my son is born (DD 6-17-16) so I don't have to worry about my hair with a new baby.

With that being said, I decided to try out some of these brunette products from John Frieda.

In-Shower Treatment:
This stuff really works. I would say it changed my hair the full "1 shade lighter" just like the box claimed. I went from essentially black to actually brunette.
It does have a strong scent at first, but I have also never dyed my hair with anything other than henna and indigo, so those who dye their hair more regularly might not find it to be a strong scent. I just opened up the shower curtain halfway so I wasn't stuck inside that closed space with the scent.
I washed my hair with the Multi Tone Revealing Shampoo, then wrung out my hair. I put on gloves (the box didn't instruct you to do so, but from the reviews I read, people recommended it) and applied the In-Shower Treatment all over my hair. It gets foamy and feels like it penetrates well, so you don't have to be super precise with the application. I let it sit for 5 minutes and rinsed, then shampooed and conditioned as usual using the Multi Tone Revealing line again.
It did seem as though my roots were lightened quite a bit more than the lengths of my hair which have been dyed over a few times. With that being said, I think this will work wonders on virgin hair. I think my roots might have gotten two shades lighter.

Shampoo & Conditioner:
The shampoo does have sulfates, so I would only recommend this to those natural brunettes who just want to enhance their own color. Sulfates are going to kill your color. So, in my case, the sulfates are actually helpful since I trying to get back to my regular brunette hair.
Both the shampoo and conditioner have a slight tint to them, it looks like a caramel color.

Afterwards, my hair felt nice and soft and really manageable, so unlike many reviews I read, I didn't find it to be damaging or drying for my hair. Now I can't attribute the softness just to the treatment, it could also be from the shampoo and conditioner. Overall, using this whole system together, I was very happy with my results and would totally recommend to anyone looking to slightly lighten their brunette hair in a super natural looking and easy way. I will keep you posted on any long term results in the future too.

Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lipsticks Lip Swatches & Pictures

Electric Hair Straightening Brush by Drok on Amazon Review

Right off the bat, let me tell you that I was sent this product for free from the company. However, I am not being paid to tell you about it. Here you'll find my own 100% honest opinion of this hair tool, so let's get into the review.

Here's a little product overview...

As I write this, the pink version of this hair tool is currently $26.99 on Amazon. The black version is priced at $39.99. Either way, I think it's an awesome deal and very worth it.

So this product is exactly what it sounds like. It's an electric hair straightening brush. You plug it into the wall and brush your hair with it to get straight locks.

You hold the power button to turn it on and it's even heat adjustable (which is one of my must-haves for a heated hair tool product). The temperature is digitally displayed in either Celsius or Fahrenheit.

The power cord has a Velcro tie on it so it's super easy to wrap up the cord when you're finished using it. This makes storage super easy. It might sound like a silly little simple thing, but trust me, you'll love this little feature.  

The little bristles don't heat up, it's the plate behind them that heats up, so you don't have to worry about burning your scalp with the brush.

You want to use this on slightly damp hair with a heat protectant or leave-in conditioner applied.

Now for the performance of the tool...

As you can see in the picture above, you can achieve straight hair with this tool (my hair is naturally wavy in texture).

It takes me about 20 minutes to do my entire head (I have thick hair and section it off to get the under sections as well). It typically will take me 5 minutes to blow dry my hair, then an additional 10-15 minutes to flat iron. Since you are leaving your hair somewhat damp, using this will cut down on blow dry time, so I would say this takes roughly the same amount of time to do my hair as traditionally flat ironing does. And another thing is, I've only been using it a week or so. I know it will get easier with time and I can probably cut down that styling time by 5 minutes.

This product straightens without looking fake and overly pin straight. I think it gives the most natural straight appearance. No one will think you used a heat tool to make your hair behave this way. It just looks like you have naturally straight hair! You may be able to tell in the picture that there is a little bit of wave on the ends of my hair. That sort of result is what makes it look so natural.

My favorite way to use this is when I wake up in the morning, I run it over the top layers of my hair to calm it down. Sometimes your hair is just kinked strangely in the morning and this product does an excellent job of calming it down quickly without having to go over your entire head.

Review : #YSLcolorperfection YSL Touche Eclat Neutralizer - Bisque

I received this product from Influenster for free to review. However, my opinion is 100% my own and honest.

I find that this product helps to conceal my undereye circles.

I always have to top it with a skin tone concealer to cover its intense pigmentation.

The product isn't too liquid or stiff, it's a great consistency.

The product color is brightening, it seems to have some great light reflecting properties that make the skin appear luminous and still natural and pretty.

I love the click packaging! So easy to use and unique.

However, it isn't the best for my fair skin. It would be better for those with more medium to darker skin tones. With darker skin tones, you wouldn't have to go in and cover it with another concealer, making the undereye area unnecessarily heavy.

NEW Maybelline Master Fix by Face Studio Setting + Perfecting Loose Powder

$9.99 at Ulta for 6 grams or .21 ounces (less than most of my pressed powders at around 9 grams).

It is a super finely milled powder and it totally disappears after simply rubbing it in your fingers for a second.

The packaging description says this powder "sets, mattifies, blurs, and smooths," so let's see how I think it lives up to those claims.

It sets makeup even with the slightest dusting of powder with a large fluffy brush.

It mattifies.

It does blur and smooths things out. I definitely noticed a difference in my usually-on-the-larger-size pores around my nose. I find that the smoothing and blurring properties are similar though. It seriously does make a big difference in my pores though. This powder paired with the New Maybelline Dream Velvet foundation that I just reviewed make my pores disappear.

I like how the powder can only come out of the little holes on one side of the packaging, instead of all over. This packaging allows a great amount of product to come through, not too much, not too little. 

Overall, it does what it needs to do, with the bonus of real pore perfecting action, and I would recommend it.

NEW Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon Review & Swatches

Now, I love Maybelline Color Tattoos. They are the best thing to happen to drugstore makeup pretty much ever, if you ask me. Ha. I just adore them. These little pencils are giving the originals a run for their money though.

These crayons contain 2.2 grams of product (regular Color Tattoos are 4 grams). They are the same price at Ulta at $6.99 each. 

This difference in amount of product for the same price doesn't bother me because you're getting it in more convenient packaging. Less product for better packaging is okay in my book. Not like you're ever going to use up an entire pot of the original Color Tattoos anyway (At least I know I'm not going to).

Okay, so let me tell you the best thing about them...

They won't crease even when you don't blend them in! 

You can just scribble it all over your eyelid and go. No blending required. You don't have to get your fingers all messy getting ready in the morning. And better yet, if you have long nails, you don't have to worry about that fiasco dipping into a pot of color with your finger, like you do with the original Color Tattoos. 

Of course, if you don't like a stark line of eyeshadow on your lid, you'll need to at least blend out the edges. But if you're putting other shadows on top, it's not even necessary to blend out the edges. I don't know how it works but the look just comes together perfectly without that extra step. You don't get any weird transitional space between the lid with a base and the upper eye area without a base.

Now here are the shades that I personally picked up. My only gripe is that there aren't any mattes in this color selection! Why?!

Gold Rush is just your typical golden color. It builds up nicely to get the color you see swatched. If you sheer it out with your finger or try to blend it in any way, it loses too much color, so I wouldn't recommend blending too much. It's an awesome base for anything from light champagnes to intense golden browns.

Charcoal Chrome has a really cool depth to it. You can see almost a deep brown-ish undertone to it that gives it a little something special and I am a big fan. It's not too metallic but gives matte powder shadows a little bit of something special when you use it as a base.

Overall, go find these! They are awesome.

NEW Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation Review

I ordered online and picked up shade 05 Warm Porcelain. It was the second lightest (I'm usually shade 2-3 in most lines anyway) plus it had the title "warm" in it. I have warm toned skin, but I always have an issue finding a good shade that's light and warm from the drugstore. I always find the lightest shades have too much pink in them for my skin.

I honestly find this foundation to be more on the neutral side, not warm. However, it does oxidize after just a couple of hours to have an orange-ish tint and it looks a tad darker than before. For me, that's great because it gives it a warmer undertone that's slightly darker which suits my skin better in the long run. I know that won't be the case for everyone, but for me, the oxidization actually helps.

I have super oily skin, a pimple every now and then, some redness, just to give you an idea of what skin situation I'm viewing this foundation from.

Consistency
When they say "our first gel-whipped foundation," they mean it. That's a great way to describe the consistency.

Coverage
I would call this medium coverage. You can still see some imperfections through it, but it covers my redness. It still gives a great base for the rest of your makeup, in my opinion. It also has a very even coverage and lays well on the skin. It is buildable to an extent, but be careful because it is possible to go overboard and cake it up.
It doesn't settle into my fine lines or smile lines much at all. You really have to be examining it to notice that and it takes 7+ hours for it to happen anyway. Even my favorite Revlon ColorStay can settle into my lines after just a couple hours!

Wear 

This foundation is not transfer proof. I just want to get that out there right off the bat. 

After 7 hours, you can see slight break down around the nose. Oil is still under control. 

This foundation feels light on the skin. Usually, when wearing a foundation all day, at some point I start to feel and look oily and it feels like my skin weighs a ton! This foundation doesn't feel that way. Some days I totally forget I'm wearing it because you really just don't feel it on the skin. 

Even when setting it with a very light dusting of powder, the shine was minimal. When I set it with my typical heavier application of powder, it look so gorgeous all day! 

I think those with normal or dry skin can totally get away without using any powder to set it. I just don't feel comfortable pulling that off with my oily skin. 

This is a long-wearing foundation, but it's not a 12 hours+ foundation like Revlon ColorStay is for me. It will last all day for most people (8 hours), but it's just not the longest wearing foundation I've come across. It does start to break down around the nose after 3-4 hours. You can easily pat the foundation back in, but it never goes back to being as great of a finish like in the beginning. Also at around the 7-8 hour mark, you can start to see that it's just wearing off in places where you may have touched your face (for me, it's my chin).

Overall, this is an awesome everyday foundation for me. It's great for days I don't want or need super heavy cakey makeup. It looks just beautiful on the skin and holds up for a normal day of wear. It's not something I would choose for special occasions or super long days, but for everyday wear, it's perfect.

NEW Covergirl TruNaked Roses Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

$11.99 at Ulta, $9.98 at Walmart

These are very soft eyeshadows with a lot of pigment! Even the lightest ones pack a punch of color.

The only downside is that there is some fallout with the more shimmery shades in this palette. That's not a big deal and definitely not a make or break situation for me personally, I just thought I'd mention it.

Because of these characteristics listed above, these shadows remind me of the Wet n Wild formula from the 8 pan palettes we all know and love! They are super pigmented, but can be a little soft and have fallout.

The packaging is super simple and sleek without looking overly cheap. It's not bulky and won't take up unnecessary space. You can see all the shades easily because of the clear lid.

There are only three mattes (and I'm not so sure on the first, lightest one), but those shades are excellent transition shades for the crease. If they were going to make any of the shades mattes, those two transition shades would be the perfect two to do it. Perhaps it could benefit from one more dark shade to be matte, but I'm not complaining over here, this is a great palette. The layout is great, there's a good amount of light, medium, and dark shades.

I don't own the Naked 3, otherwise I'd show you guys some comparisons. Sorry!

One swipe up, one swipe down, and then swatched on dry skin, no primer, etc. 

Overall, This is a great bargain drugstore eyeshadow palette! (I might even say the shadows are better quality overall compared to the Loreal La Palette Nudes *gasp* or at least the two are tied)

There are two other palettes in the line (Goldens & Nudes). If they had a palette with a little pop of color, I would totally pick it up. But for now, I really think I've got enough neutral shades in my collection. Haha. That's not to say these aren't awesome palettes!

NEW Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick Review & Swatches

Okay guys, enough of the baby talk. Even though you're still going to see plenty of it on here, let's spice things up and head back into the good ole makeup and beauty world! I know I haven't put up a lot of makeup stuff lately and I am soooo sorry, I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. But with all this new stuff coming out lately, I finally got a little bit of inspiration to hop back in.

Today let's talk about the NEW Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks...

I picked these up in a little Ulta haul of several new drugstore products. So look forward to seeing a handful of other reviews coming soon. I love matte lips (and pretty much all matte makeup in general), so I was very excited to try these out and give you guys my thoughts!

Shades

Application after 30-45 minutes (satin-matte finish)

Nude Thrill - This is an excellent medium nude for my pale skin. It has both brown and orange undertones, but it's really the perfect balance of both. It's similar to my natural lip color but a bit darker.

Fresh application (glossy)

Pink Charge - A light/medium pink that is actually a really flattering shade. It's not quite as intense on the lips as you might thinking looking at it in the tube. Personally, I see more coral-pink in the tube and just regular pink in swatches or on the lips.




Formula

These feel great on the lips and really don't transfer as bad as you would think. Let me explain... They feel so liquid on the lips that you would think simply drinking from a water bottle all day would remove them. But they don't transfer too bad and the color sticks around on the lips pretty well. They feel super comfy and moisturized without feeling heavy! And it's a genuine moisturized feeling, not just a feeling of wetness on the lips. However, with all that being said, it takes them quite awhile to dry down to this "matte" finish, probably about 30 minutes. But once they get there, it is a beautiful soft matte finish. It's not this super duper bone-dry finish that so many matte liquid lipsticks have these days. It's definitely not glossy, but it's just a beautiful finish, truly.

The formula feels and looks like a whipped gel-like consistency. It applies evenly and builds on itself well. It doesn't do anything weird when you apply a second layer, even if it's a couple hours down the road and you're just touching up the color.

Since they are not drying and actually moisturizing, I almost think these have a plumping effect. Not an artificial, make your lips tingle kind of plump, but just a nice moisturized and healthy looking plump-ness. I think they are super flattering on the lips and don't accentuate any kind of lines on your lips. They even out the surface and your lips just look great!

I find that the moisture is gone after about three hours of wear time (and I am constantly drinking from a water bottle FYI), but the color is still looking pretty good with Nude Thrill and okay with Pink Charge. The color isn't perfect at three hours, but I reapply for the moisture.

Application

I didn't notice any difficulty in application due to the applicator. I usually don't like this kind of flat tipped applicator, but this one actually wasn't bad and I didn't have any issues with it.

Fragrance/Taste

It has a fragrance that I'd call something like fruity paint? It's hard to put my finger on it but I honestly just thought it smelled fruity as I was initially applying it. But once I intentionally stuck my nose up to it and sniffed it, I could definitely smell something chemically too. I usually don't pay much attention to scent in makeup, but after seeing TotalMakeupJunkie101's review video, I had to check it out intentionally. She also mentioned a terrible perfume-like taste to the lipstick in her video, but honestly I think it's sooo sooo very light and I only get that taste when I intentionally licked my lips to inspect this aspect. I never notice any weird taste in normal wear.

So overall, I really like these, but I honestly wish they had chosen another name for them. Having "matte" in the title of this lip product is very misleading, if you ask me. They take a long time to settle into their soft matte finish, therefore I think they're more similar to any regular lipstick that loses its sheen after a couple hours, not a matte liquid lipstick like we all have seen all over the market lately. That's really my only gripe. I think they are not marketed or named properly, but they are really great lip products otherwise. I just feel like Maybelline put the "matte liquid" name on it to make people attracted to it and want to buy it because it might be a dupe for another true matte liquid lipstick on the market. That's my opinion anyway.

My Henna and Indigo Hair - Light Mountain Black, Burgundy, & Henna Dream Black Hair Dye

So you may have seen my updated henna hair post from this past summer! Well, I've changed it up again so let me show you and tell you a bit about it.

Light Mountain Black Henna/Indigo Dye Results

I loved my red henna hair (Light Mountain Bright Red). It was magnificent, so vibrant, and just great looking. The color stayed sooo well and it never faded. The only reason I needed to re-do was for my roots. However, even though I loved it, I just wanted to change things up and see if I could get my hair black with henna and indigo. That was the color I was going for when I first began this journey last year. And yes, "journey" is the correct word to use because henna/indigo is a journey. It can turn out different on every hair color and type, sometimes you have to build up your color with 2-3 or even more applications (as you'll see here or have seen in the other post links here)! But it's a smooth journey at least, it gradually changes your hair, so even if you don't get the color you want right off the bat, it still looks beautiful and natural.

Ok, so let's talk about this process. I last henna-d my hair red 7 weeks ago. (I was actually just doing the top red and the underneath portions of my hair was black/burgundy, but you mostly just noticed the red because it was on top, just FYI).

Results of Light Mountain Burgundy & Henna Dream Black 

I had some leftover dyes and figured, hey, let's just use these up. So I mixed together Light Mountain Burgundy and Henna Dream Black dyes. The ratio was probably something like 1 part Burgundy to 2 parts Black. And This gave me a beautiful deep chocolate brown! It was gorgeous and I definitely could have just left it at that. But I kept on trucking in this journey to see what I could get. Talk about going from one extreme to the other... Ha.

Light Mountain Black

But instead I ordered a box of Light Mountain Black to see just how dark we could get this hair! It was about a week in between applications.

I used about half of the box because I was only going to do the top portion of my hair (since, like I mentioned earlier, I had already been dying the lower half dark anyway). I just used warm water from the tap and didn't add anything to the mixture. I applied it immediately and left it on my hair for 3 hours.

Light Mountain Black - (left on for 3 hours)

During this waiting time my henna/indigo got a crazy metallic purple/green sheen to it which I've never witnessed before. My husband thought it was going to turn my hair purple (which I would have been okay with honestly lol). But it all turned out fine. I rinsed it out twice with conditioner (no shampoo!!! I always wait 48 hours to shampoo).

Indigo stained fingers after first blow dry

As I blow dried my hair (because I'm impatient and must see the results in their full glory immediately) I could see the blue of the indigo on my fingers when I ran them through my hair. (I could have done an extra conditioner rinse). But I'd never noticed that before with any of the other henna/indigo mixtures/brands I've used before. The indigo dye really released well this time around! I don't know if it's the brand or the fact that I didn't use super hot water to mix it with, but it turned out great.

Light Mountain Black Results

Now it's just time to see how it lasts. Will it fade a bit upon first shampoo? Will it stick around for weeks and months just as intense as red henna? Only time will tell and I'll definitely keep you guys updated.

Flower Beauty Fragrance Trio Holiday Set Review : Eau de Parfum Rollerball / Roll-On in Cherished, Radiant, and Sultry

I saw this set at Walmart and I'm pretty sure it was out last year too, but I never got to try these scents and I love Flower Beauty, so I picked it up. So here are my thoughts...

Sultry -

Upon first sniff, this had a strong alcohol scent to it. Not a fan. But once I applied it and it settled down for a few minutes, it wasn't a bad fragrance and I think I like it. It has more depth than the other two. You can smell the patchouli (a scent I personally like), but the plum scent is more powerful to me.

Radiant -

• "A striking and confident sparkling floral featuring Dewy Greens, Magnolia and Pink Amber." - Flower Beauty Website

Not a fan of this one. This is a light scent but it smells a little too floral and old-lady-like for me.

Cherished -

• "A comforting and nuzzly powdery floral featuring Lily of the Valley, Tahitian Vanilla and Creamy Sandalwood." - Flower Beauty Website

When I brought these home and smelled each one, this is the one that stood out to me. This one is my favorite. I love Vanilla though, it's easily my all-time favorite scent. I would put it right in between the two others as far as light/heavy. For some reason it's reminding me of this CK One knock off I owned in middle school. Ha.

Packaging:
I do like the packaging. It doesn't feel cheap. It's glass, not plastic. I like the gradient color and the fact that each fragrance is easily identified by color and you won't mix them up. You can grab the one you want without having to read it. The name however, is written in a good sized font if you want to go that route. It feels just as nice as any other roller ball perfume. The roller ball itself is actually my favorite part. I find that some perfume roller balls don't roll very well and you have to swirl it around on your skin in five circles to get any fragrance to come out. That is not the case with these, they just take one or two swirls and you're good to go.

Overall, I don't find them to be long lasting fragrances and they just smell cheap. Each roller ball ends up costing less than $5 a pop, so perhaps I'm asking too much of these. But they don't have real depth that lingers and I was definitely underwhelmed by these, even Cherish, a scent I liked. I honestly can only smell them for about two hours after application (and that's if I'm making a point to sniff them). I have body sprays that last longer than that.

I'll probably just keep them in my purse just in case I feel like wearing a little bit of something one day. I won't be repurchasing or buying the full size of any of them though.

The website does describe them as best used one after the other for all day fragrance. They suggest wearing Cherished in the morning, Radiant mid-day, and Sultry for the evening. If you put it that way, I guess it makes sense that the scents don't linger very long. However, I think the idea of carrying multiple fragrances for different times of day sounds unreasonable. I personally, hardly ever reapply my fragrance anyway.

They might be okay for a younger audience that just wants to try perfume. You can't really go overboard with them because they lose their scent quickly. I wouldn't recommend it for any real fragrance lovers out there.
