Flower Beauty Fragrance Trio Holiday Set Review : Eau de Parfum Rollerball / Roll-On in Cherished, Radiant, and Sultry

I saw this set at Walmart and I'm pretty sure it was out last year too, but I never got to try these scents and I love Flower Beauty, so I picked it up. So here are my thoughts...

Sultry -

Upon first sniff, this had a strong alcohol scent to it. Not a fan. But once I applied it and it settled down for a few minutes, it wasn't a bad fragrance and I think I like it. It has more depth than the other two. You can smell the patchouli (a scent I personally like), but the plum scent is more powerful to me.

Radiant -

• "A striking and confident sparkling floral featuring Dewy Greens, Magnolia and Pink Amber." - Flower Beauty Website

Not a fan of this one. This is a light scent but it smells a little too floral and old-lady-like for me.

Cherished -

• "A comforting and nuzzly powdery floral featuring Lily of the Valley, Tahitian Vanilla and Creamy Sandalwood." - Flower Beauty Website

When I brought these home and smelled each one, this is the one that stood out to me. This one is my favorite. I love Vanilla though, it's easily my all-time favorite scent. I would put it right in between the two others as far as light/heavy. For some reason it's reminding me of this CK One knock off I owned in middle school. Ha.

Packaging:
I do like the packaging. It doesn't feel cheap. It's glass, not plastic. I like the gradient color and the fact that each fragrance is easily identified by color and you won't mix them up. You can grab the one you want without having to read it. The name however, is written in a good sized font if you want to go that route. It feels just as nice as any other roller ball perfume. The roller ball itself is actually my favorite part. I find that some perfume roller balls don't roll very well and you have to swirl it around on your skin in five circles to get any fragrance to come out. That is not the case with these, they just take one or two swirls and you're good to go.

Overall, I don't find them to be long lasting fragrances and they just smell cheap. Each roller ball ends up costing less than $5 a pop, so perhaps I'm asking too much of these. But they don't have real depth that lingers and I was definitely underwhelmed by these, even Cherish, a scent I liked. I honestly can only smell them for about two hours after application (and that's if I'm making a point to sniff them). I have body sprays that last longer than that.

I'll probably just keep them in my purse just in case I feel like wearing a little bit of something one day. I won't be repurchasing or buying the full size of any of them though.

The website does describe them as best used one after the other for all day fragrance. They suggest wearing Cherished in the morning, Radiant mid-day, and Sultry for the evening. If you put it that way, I guess it makes sense that the scents don't linger very long. However, I think the idea of carrying multiple fragrances for different times of day sounds unreasonable. I personally, hardly ever reapply my fragrance anyway.

They might be okay for a younger audience that just wants to try perfume. You can't really go overboard with them because they lose their scent quickly. I wouldn't recommend it for any real fragrance lovers out there.

Last Breath of Summer : Makeup of the Day : FOTD

While thinking about doing my makeup this morning as I paged through Pinterest for inspiration, I kept coming across tons of dark, smoky, vampy looks that I wanted to play around with. I wanted so badly to just throw on my darkest lipstick and create the perfect deep brown smoky eye. However, once I sat down at my vanity, I decided to give summer one last hurrah, to go out with a bang and do something very colorful and fun. It's Labor Day here in the US, the symbolic end of summer, so here is the "Last Breath of Summer" just for the occasion!

The eyes are totally matte, but so colorful. I originally wanted to make the main lid color a deep purple, but opted for white instead once it came down to it. The white makes the look even brighter, I think.

It was impossible to get a good shot of the lips. They look so much cooler in person than I could possible get myself to capture on camera. They're super nude and washed out, but the center of my bottom lip and the cupid's bow on my top lip are highlighted with my face highlighter of the day.

Flower Beauty Hollywood Secret Concealer Kit Review & Swatches

I am typically a big fan of Flower Beauty products. I love their About Face Foundation and BB Cream, for starters. However, this little concealer kit was a disappointment for me personally. 

First Impression:

The primer gives a nice brightening effect.

The lightest concealer may be a tad light for me

The darker concealer is too dark for under-eye concealing on my skin tone. 

It looked super dry and settled right into my fine lines around my eyes in just a matter of seconds after application. 

So let's get into a break-down on the shades we have here. 

Primer

The first is a "primer" which has a silicone-like texture, similar to a the typical face primers you may come across lately. It also gives off a white appearance which can be used for brightening effects under the eyes on super fair skin. Anyone darker in skin tone than me would probably find this primer to be a little too white. 

Fair Concealer

This concealer is a very thin consistency. It may look creamy in the swatch below, but I assure you that it makes the under-eye area look drier than dry. I cannot begin to explain how bad it makes my under-eyes look. I have oily skin and have never experienced what it's like to have such a dry place on my face. At this point, it is also a little bright for my skin since it is getting warmer out and I have gained a little bit of color from the sun.

Medium Concealer

This concealer seems to have a different texture than the Fair Concealer. It has a thicker consistency and doesn't settle as badly into fine lines. However, it doesn't look perfect on the under-eyes and it is also a bit dark for my skin at the moment as well. It seems as though I am stuck in between the two skin-tone concealer shades in this palette.

Green Color Correcting Concealer

This concealer is not what I would call the "traditional green color correcting concealer" which is gaining popularity in the beauty world these days. It is an olive green color, whereas most other green concealers on the market tend to run a little more on the mint green side of things. To me, the deepness of this shade does not work with my fair skin.

I feel like this palette needs to be available in different skin tone ranges instead of just this one option. To me, these shades do not go together well. The fair concealer is for fair ladies or light skin-tones as a brightening concealer. The medium concealer would be great for medium skin-tones, but to me the green concealer would be best suited for medium or darker skin tones because it has such an olive-y darker tone to it.

I am perplexed by the shade range in this palette, not to mention the consistency of the fair concealer and the fact that it makes my under-eyes look terrible and ages me 10 years. 

Even when using the "primer" underneath, the concealer sunk into my fine lines under my eyes almost immediately. 

Overall, this little palette was a big disappointment for me, even though I am generally a big fan of Flower Beauty products.

New Flower Beauty Ultimate Makeup Brushes : Review : Pictures : Lip & Powder Brush

When I saw Flower Beauty post a picture of these new brushes I immediately went on the hunt to find them!  Not finding much information on them online, I knew it had to go pick them up and try them out for myself.

I picked up the lip and powder brushes.

I skipped out on the angled liner brush because I have plenty of those.

I skipped out on the foundation brush because I have plenty of those too and I just simply do not enjoy using those types of brushes for foundation.

I also skipped out on the eyeshadow brush because 1) it was gigantic, I probably wouldn't even use it for eyeshadow, and 2) I already have a couple giant eyeshadow brushes anyway.

So now we're down to the two brushes I did pick up.  I wanted the lip brush because I only have one other lip brush that I really don't find to be the best thing ever.  And I also did not own a big ole powder brush, so I thought I'd check that one out too.

I have mixed feelings about these brushes.

I love Flower Beauty!  Pretty much everything I have tried, I have absolutely fallen in love with.  These ones, not so much.

The lip brush I enjoy more than the powder brush.  The lip brush distributes product evenly and smoothly.  However, I think I've already stained mine, there's no getting it out.  I used a Velvetine from Lime Crime, which are super potent.  Maybe not the best decision.

The powder brush is a little flimsy, which I understand is necessary to an extent in order to keep your other face makeup or foundation in tact when you're completing your makeup's finished touch of powder.  But for the price, to me, I wanted this brush to have a little more something to it.  They are both soft and easy to use, but I think the Coastal Scents 22 Piece Brush set that I purchased a couple of years ago is better quality and way more affordable on a brush-by-brush basis.

Have you seen these?  I had to travel a bit to find them and they were sold-out online.

Flower Beauty Kiss Stick Velvet Matte Lip Color Lipstick Review : LS9 Flamingo Flower

   This lipstick has pretty nice wear time.  Without eating, you can go about 3 hours without needing to reapply just toward the inner lips.  It just fades slightly and I feel that at the 3 hour mark, it needs a little refresher, but it doesn't look bad by any means.  It leaves a slight stain behind, but after eating a meal or drinking frequently, it's really going to need to be reapplied.

     This lipstick has a thin consistency but it definitely still has great full color payoff. It has a pretty matte finish, but still has dimension.  This one in particular is a bold pink-red which is great for spring and summer. It's not a traditional red but it does have that same bold lip effect that a red gives a look.

     To compare my current favorite lipsticks to this Flower Beauty one...
NYX Matte Lipsticks are awesome, but they have a heavy feeling on the lips.  You definitely know you're wearing lipstick when you have NYX Matte Lipsticks on.  However, with this Flower Beauty Lipstick, it feels super lightweight, you wouldn't even remember you're wearing it... until you get to the 2 hour mark.  At that point Flower Beauty starts to feel dry (keep in mind, I have made my lips addicted to moisture, I am a lip balm lover and cannot go anywhere without one, so if you have normal lips that aren't addicted to lip balms, this lipstick may take on a different feel for you).  NYX Matte Lipsticks don't start to bother me until about the 4 hour mark, for comparison.

Review :: Flower Beauty Win Some Rouge Some Creme Blush CB3 Forget-Me-Not

This product claims to turn from a cream to a powder and honestly, I didn't believe that claim when I purchased it. However, once swatching it and using the product, I can see that this claim is true.

For this reason, you don't need to set this cream blush with a powder on top, it is great on its own.  It's not going to move around, once it's dry, it's good to go.

The product feels similar to NYX cream blushes straight out of the package and it blends nicely and sets similarly to ELF cream blushes.

These last all day and have very minimal fading on me, even with my oily skin.

These glide onto the skin, no tugging at all. They are super easy to work with and blend in beautifully.  They are not patchy whatsoever.

I think they are perfectly pigmented.  You don't need to dig at them to get some color payoff, but you also won't really over-do-it with this color in particular.  I find it to be a really nice natural pinky-peach flush.

Once again, I am impressed with this Flower Beauty product and would definitely recommend you check them out if you're looking for a cream blush.  I don't own many cream blushes because with my oily skin, I just despise piling on creamy products, they always make me feel gross.  The ELF studio cream blushes don't last very long on me, they fade in a couple hours, and the NYX cream blushes are too wet and sticky, they just never dry down for me, so this one here from Flower is truly awesome.

Review :: Flower Beauty Glow Baby Glow Blush Bronze Duo - BD3 Shimmering Goddess

    These are so pigmented! You really need to be careful with them. This particular duo in Shimmering Goddess is the darkest of the bunch and I think would look absolutely gorgeous on darker skintones.

    Since they are super pigmented, they are going to absolutely last you FOREVER!  A good deal for about $10, I must say. :)

    The blush is matte and the bronzer seems to have a satin-like finish.  I have found that the bronzer can come off somewhat patchy, but I think it's totally workable as an all-over bronzer instead of using it in targeted places to specifically contour your cheeks.  I use it with a larger duo-fiber brush to warm up my complexion and it's just great.

    Used together, these two products give a really natural sun-kissed glow to the skin, almost like you've truly been out in the sun and have a teeny tiny sunburn-look due to the dark pink/red color of the blush. (I realize that may sound super horrible to some of you, but that's just what it reminds me of!)

    These last all day with great pigmentation and staying power.  I love that neither are shimmery, I prefer more matte cheek products day-to-day anyway.

    However, I can see how some might find them to be overly-pigmented, but I think they are great and are a really unique addition to my collection!

Review :: Flower Beauty Shadow Play Eyeshadow Quad Palette - EQ3 Foxy Browns

     Because of my love for Flower Beauty products, not because I need more eyeshadows, I decided to pick up an eyeshadow quad and I'm really glad I did. 

     This quad in 'Foxy Browns' is an excellent neutral palette.  The shadows have wonderful pigmentation and are so great to work with. I find that they blend well and all four work together so well.

      I especially love the fact that this quad includes different finishes.  There is a matte dark brown, a shimmery pink, a shimmery brown, and a somewhat satin/metallic taupe.  Of all of these shadows, the taupe is probably the most disappointing, it just doesn't seem to transfer to the lid well, even with a base. It looks best when applied with the finger I've found. But all of the others are just great! 

     Overall, I would definitely recommend this palette and would urge you to check out other shadows from Flower Beauty. I really hope this line is successful because I can't wait to see how it expands and what new, awesome stuff Drew Barrymore throws our way.

Review :: Flower Beauty About Face Foundation - SF3

Picked this up because I am, well, obsessed with Flower Beauty.  I have loved pretty much every single item I have picked up from this line and every time I'm at Walmart, I just have to stop and stare. :)

This foundation will not last you all day perfectly, like others such as Revlon Colorstay, but we can't really compare everything to Colorstay all the time. It's awesome, everyone knows that.  Anyway, this foundation will last a good portion of the day but you can tell it starts to break down after about 6 hours and you will need to touch up with powder or at least blot.  I have oily skin so that can also be a big factor as well. 

This foundation definitely needs to be set with powder, whether or not you are oily, it doesn't dry down, it stays wet-looking and -feeling on the skin.

They really cater towards the fair skinned ladies!  Usually, in most drugstore foundations I am the second lightest shade, but with this one I was third lightest! That may sound dumb to some, but if you have very fair skin and can't seem to find a good drugstore foundation, I would say at least go check these guys out. 

Doesn't have a strong or bad scent.  It doesn't smell chemically like some foundations do.

About medium coverage. 

Blends in easily and looks great.  Probably one of the most blendable foundations I've tried lately.  But it's not so blendable that it will disappear or totally blend away.  The consistency is a nice balance between thick and thin and I overall really enjoy applying this.  I find that some foundations are going to look their best using different methods such as your fingers, a sponge, or a brush.  With this foundation, I find that it looks great with all of these methods.  I try not to use it with my beauty blender because it is water-based and the beauty blender will just suck up so much of the product, I don't want to waste it.  I actually quite enjoy using my fingers to apply this foundation, which I normally don't like doing.

The finish can depend on what powder you use to set your foundation with, of course.  I use one of two powders to set this.  Milani Multitasking Face Powder for a little extra coverage days, or Neutrogena Shine Control Powder for any regular day.  I have found that the Neutrogena powder can look cakey on top of other foundations, but it looks fine with this one.

Overall, I enjoy this foundation for everyday use and I would definitely recommend it!

Review :: Flower Beauty Kiss Stick High Shine Lip Color - Nude Narcissus

I have the Flower Beauty Pocket Fleur Trio of lipcolor in PF7 and the light pink shade on top is my favorite nude that I have ever come across.  The Pocket Fleurs have very little product and the packaging is crappy anyway, so I was on the hunt for a similar color.  I figured, let's start with Flower first since that's where I found the shade to begin with.  So I went to Walmart and picked up "Nude Narcissus" from the High Shine Lip Colors.

Although these two colors are not a match, pretty much not even close (lol), I still like them both and think they give a similar effect when on the lips. Keep in mind, the perfect nude is very dependent on your skin tone, so just because I like this one definitely does not mean it will work for everyone or even that everyone will like it on me.  But I like it, so that's what counts, right? :)

The Pocket Fleur and this lipstick both have the same scent and they seem like a similar formula. 

Nude Narcissus has a somewhat frosty finish which I thought I would never ever enjoy, but I actually like it with this lipstick.  Some days (like when I haven't exfoliated my lips in awhile) it can show up patchy.  It actually doesn't really sink into lip lines, like most lighter lipsticks I have found.  It also does not last very long on the lips.  I would say in 3 hours you're going to need to touch up even without talking or drinking excessively. 

I am surely not writing this review to tell you that all the lipsticks from this line are the same.  I realize the vast differences that can take place between colors, especially since the color I am reviewing is so very light.  I still hope this was helpful and I hope you found something of value in here. :)

Review :: Flower Beauty Raise Some Brows Defining Eyebrow Pencils - Light & Dark Brown

Since my Chella brow pencil is running out, I was on the hunt for an affordable eyebrow pencil.  I have loved so many of the things I've picked up from Flower, so I figured I would give them a go one more time.

I picked up both of these colors so I could figure out which one would work best for my hair color and figured I might as well show you guys what they looked like here in some swatches as well, in case you are a brunette looking for a decent and inexpensive eyebrow pencil.

I stuck with the light brown pencil because I felt like dark was too gray and ashy.  Plus light tended to show up darker actually, or at least more pigmented.  I felt like light was just a better match for my brows.

Overall, these pencils are nice because they twist up which is super convenient.  They actually also have a tiny sharpener in the bottom that I guess some people would like.  Personally, I don't see the point since it's retractable anyway and it isn't an actual blade, it's just plastic, so I could never really get it to work very well at sharpening.

I'm not sure that I'm in love with the texture of these pencils.  They are some what creamy, which makes you wonder if they are going to last all day.  I don't have much of a problem with staying power, they do fade a little bit, but it doesn't really bother me too terribly much.  I find that the creaminess is almost wax-like, so it does a pretty decent job at holding down those crazy brow hairs.

This is the first drugstore eyebrow pencil without a crazy red undertone to it that I have found.  However, like I said, the dark brown one was too gray-like in my opinion.  So I guess that's what you get at the drugstore, too much red-tone, or not enough.  I enjoy this pencil, though it isn't super crazy awesome and I'm unsure if I will repurchase.  But I still can't see myself spending $20+ on an Anastasia pencil.  Yes, I understand that Anastasia is pretty awesome, but still I can't justify it.  This Flower Beauty one will just have to do for now.

Flower Beauty Skincognito Stick Foundation (SF1) Review

Day 1 First Impressions - So today I wore this foundation from 9 am until 8:30 pm and I think it held up very well throughout the day.  It did show a little bit of shine on my cheeks, where I usually get oily, about halfway through the day, but it wasn't super horrible and nothing a little blotting or re-powdering couldn't fix.  When I put it on this morning at first I was super disappointed, the coverage was super light, like hardly covered anything.  I just used my fingers to blend it all in but I could still see every little freckle on my nose and I had a zit on my cheek that it did not cover whatsoever.  So I put on another layer and a little extra in places I needed concealing (I didn't use a separate concealer today) and I was MUCH happier with the outcome. The finish was super nice and I just loved the way it turned out after that second layer.  I also powdered on top because the finish was a bit too shiny for what I like.  So I did feel somewhat oily after a couple hours of wear, but not as bad as I usually feel with pretty much any other foundation.  I didn't really examine the color in direct sunlight yet, so I'm not sure if it matches me perfectly, but inside in regular lighting I think it fits pretty well.  It didn't oxidize any, that I noticed, which is awesome.  I hate when a foundation matches you perfectly when you put it on in the morning, then by lunchtime you look orange.  

Day 4 Update - I have been wearing this foundation for 4 days straight and I think I like it.  I no longer feel super oily underneath the foundation like I did on the first day.  The first day I wore it was the only day it made me feel/look oily, maybe I was just having a bad skin day.  I love the way it wears and I feel like it looks its best after a couple hours of wear, it looks more like skin and I love the finish after those couple of hours.  At first it does look somewhat cakey and fake, you can definitely tell you're wearing foundation, but I guess after it has had some time to settle into the skin, it looks more natural.  It keeps my skin tone evened out and looks flawless all day (9+ hours).  Like I said, it hasn't covered my zit very well, and also I have noticed that it does not flatter the dry spots on my skin, they look flaky and just not good, but then again, I haven't been using a good moisturizer underneath lately.  I think it kinda gives off a white cast in flash photos because my face always looks way whiter than my neck and the rest of my body when I take photos, but when I take a picture without flash, but maybe my phone's camera is funky, but I don't really know what the deal is because the foundation matches my skin pretty well in person.

To sum up...

Pros...

-Love the finish after it has time to settle in the skin (about 2 hours for me)

-Buildable coverage (medium-sheer to [not quite] full)

-Doesn't make me feel/look like a grease ball

-Decent price (about $9)

-Easy application (stick form = great for travel, blends very well)

Cons...

-Makes dry spots look flaky 

-May leave a white cast in flash photos

-Looks cakey when first applied

-Doesn't cover zits well

I've really been impressed with all of the products I have tried from this line and I hope they will continue expanding and enhancing their products for the future, I hope this line is successful and sticks around for awhile.  I also really want to try the Petite Fleurs Pocket Triplets stackle lip products, but the Walmarts around me don't carry them yet. Flower Beauty Nail'd It Nail Lacquer in NP6 "I Lavendare You" Review

     After trying out the creme eyeshadow & mascara from the Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore line at Walmart and really loving those products, I finally gave in and picked up a couple other items.   Here is a short review on the nail polish.  The particular color I picked up is in "I Lavendare You!" and it's a gorgeous pastel lavender purple with teeny tiny little cool toned shimmers in it (in different lighting they look silver, blue, pink, purple).  It stood out to me because I don't own any light purple polishes & I felt like it would be a wonderful spring color, but the other colors in the line are gorgeous choices as well.

Dry Time - 4/5 - Dry time is one of the biggest issues I like to know about a nail polish because I am A) not super awesome at painting my nails & B) not very patient about it either.  I hate that because of my lack of patience, I could spend forever doing my nails and making them pretty, then totally have them ruined because I just can't sit still to let them dry for an hour.  They didn't dry crazy fast like by the time you're done with your second hand, the first is all set to go, but they did dry more quickly than some other polishes I typically use (ex: Wet n Wild Megalast & Sinful Colors).

Formula - 4/5 - This polish is a pretty thick consistency which makes it kind of difficult to work with in my opinion.  You may really like using thick polishes, but I find it a little difficult to keep the nail nice and neat when the formula is too thick.  

Color Payoff - 5/5 - Although with the first layer, this polish came off sheer, it wasn't splotchy or streaky and still looked gorgeous.  It could totally be worn with one layer just to give a bit of color to the nails, but I chose to pile on 3 layers just to see what it would take to make them opaque.  In my opinion, this is the perfect polish as far as color is concerned.  It can be worn sheer and still looks beautiful, or you can layer it up and it's an awesome opaque color.  I usually do 3 layers of any polish anyway, so I don't find it to be an issue.

Wear - 4.5/5  - I used no base coat or top coat for this little beauty experiment, just so I could see what the real wear of the genuine product was like.  After the first day I did notice the tiniest bit of wear on the very edges of my nails, but it wasn't a huge deal and they stayed in relatively the same condition the entire time I kept the polish on.  I had no chipping or peeling either.  I won't give it a 5 because they did not stay absolutely perfect, but they still wore very very well and I was pretty impressed, especially without the use of a base or top coat.
     I don't really work with my hands or anything, I think the wear I put on my nails is pretty typical.  I use them to pick and scratch and tap and whatnot, but it's not like I garden or work in the food industry and have to wash my hands a hundred times a day or anything like that.
    This nail polish was under $5 at Walmart, $4.97 or so. I really hope this helped and maybe gave you some idea of the quality of these polishes.
