May 2013 Favorites

Watch the video here!

Here are my favorites for the month of May 2013.
- Ecotools 5 Piece Brush Set
- Kat Von D True Romance Beethoven Eyeshadow Palette
- Bath & Body Works Honeysuckle Candle
- NYX Bohemian Chic Palette Blush
- Flower Beauty Pocket Fleur Lipstick PF7
- Pacifica Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter
- Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream
- Pacifica Island Vanilla Roll On Perfume

EcoTools 5 Piece Brush Set - I love these brushes.  I've been looking for an excellent blush and contour brush for awhile, but I didn't want to pay a lot.  This set is totally affordable at around $10 and I'm pretty sure you can find it even cheaper on Ebay.  The Kabuki is my favorite for contouring, I think it is simply the perfect size for my face.  I actually use the powder brush for blush and once again, it fits on my cheeks perfectly.  The blending brush is the best one I own, it isn't to flimsy or stiff either, it works wonderfully to blend out shadows and to use in the crease.  The concealer brush I find does not work well for shadows, it tends to leave too much fallout unless you use the shadows wet, but of course, it wasn't necessarily made for shadows, it was made for concealer, which I find it to be a perfect fit.  I don't typically use a concealer brush, but ever since purchasing this set, I do use one more often than before. The little baggy is actually quite convenient since I like to take this set with me when I leave home, it's made the perfect size for these brushes, which makes it compact and easy to deal with.
Kat Von D True Romance Beethoven Eyeshadow Palette
I already have a full review of this palette here...

Bath & Body Works Honeysuckle Candle
Favorite scent from BBW pretty much ever, and especially for Spring and Summer.  If you've never smelled it, you just have to go find this scent and try it for yourself! Best scent ever! lol.

NYX Bohemian Chic Eyeshadow Palette
If you have watched my channel for awhile, you know how much I love this palette, I use it all the time.
Pacifica Island Vanilla Roll On Perfume
Another wonderful scent that you just have to check out for yourself.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream
I really really think this stuff has done my skin some real good.  I feel like my little lines have been reduced and that my redness and general uneven skin tone has been improving ever since I began using it.  Maybe I will have a full review later on down the line if I continue loving this stuff.

Flower Beauty Petite Pocket Fleurs Lip Product PF7
This is the coolest idea I have seen in the makeup world recently and I am in love with the concept.  The formula of these lipsticks are wonderful as well.  They are opaque and creamy.  Although they won't last all day long and can fade quickly throughout the day, the idea that they are some sort of emergency lip color when you just really need to add some color to your complexion, I think they have totally hit the target and I love it.
Pacifica Coconut Crushed Pearl Bronzing Body Butter
This stuff smells great and adds the perfect amount of glow for summer.  I use it on my legs and it really gives off the illusion that I have been out in the sun, without looking fake and overly shimmery or shiny, it has a wonderful bronze tone for my relatively fair skin tone.

Urban Decay Mariposa Palette Review

You may have seen my review on the Urban Decay Ammo Shadow Box and you would have seen how extremely disappointed I was with those shadows. (check out that review here)  I could not believe anyone would pay this kind of money for a product like that.  Well thank goodness I also purchased this palette as well because I was much more pleased with this than I was with the Ammo Shadow Box.  I purchased both of these products on sale for $15 on the Urban Decay website a couple weeks back because they were a super deal and I have never owned any palettes from Urban Decay. On the Urban Decay website, this one was listed as a "new product," so I figured maybe it was made with the newer shadow formula and the Ammo Shadow Box was just a leftover from the old formula.  I also looked at a few of the shadow ingredients in this palette compared to the Ammo Shadow Box and the single shadows, and judging by the couple of shadow ingredient labels I saw, it looks like this palette has the same new formula for the single shadows.  I have heard in other reviews that the "new" formula is much better in terms of crazy fallout and whatnot, so I guess I can only assume this palette is full of the "new" shadows because the fallout is nothing compared to that crazy Ammo Shadow Box!

Although there is still some fallout, it is not anything like the crazy glitter fallout mess of the Ammo Shadow Box.  Thank goodness.  I do love a few of these shades and I think if you really really wanted to travel with only one palette, this one could work.
Limelight is a pretty gold color, not particularly amazing.
Spotlight I think isn't too great.  It comes off sheer and not quite like the color you see in the pan.
Mushroom is a wonderful taupe.
Money is alright, like a green-toned grey.
Haight is a very pretty blue, but I have better blues.  I am a blue/teal/turquoise shadow lover.
Rockstar is a super pretty dark purple.
Gunmetal is another wonderful color, dark enough for outer-v or crease work, but not so dark and scary as a black.
Skimp is another pretty one.  It's a light color but it's not sheer, it comes off well.  It can work as a brow bone color if need be because it isn't super shimmery or glittery.
Infamous looks beautiful but it can take some work to get the full color pay off, but when used lightly it's also very pretty to bring some subtle color to an eye look.
Wreckage I wasn't super impressed with because it can take some work to get it as dark as it looks in the pan.  It feels like a darker version of Spotlight which I don't really like to begin with.

Here are some "dupes" I found in my Coastal Scents 252 Palette.  I didn't look in any of my smaller palettes or single shadows.
Haight has a darker tone to it, you can tell it has like a grey undertone, whereas the Coastal Scents color seems to be just straight up blue.  Haight has more dimension.

I did not find an exact dupe for Infamous because it has a more blue/purple undertone than typical pinks.  Although I feel that these other pinks in the Coastal Scents palette would do just fine to accomplish the same affect in an eye look, I guess technically, they aren't exactly "dupes."

Limelight has more of a sheen and more glitter than the Coastal Scents color, but I think they are the same color underneath it all.

Mushroom is my love in this palette I think, so even though the Coastal Scents color comes close, I don't think it is really exact or has the same effect as Mushroom.  Mushroom is just a beautiful taupe with a grey/brown look, whereas the Coastal Scents color has more of a brown undertone with less grey.  The Coastal Scents color also has more of a sheen which makes the color appear lighter, while I like Mushroom for it's darkness.

I hope this helped and you enjoyed!

Urban Decay Ammo Shadow Box Review

I don't really know what to say about this palette.  I bought it when it was on sale for $15, which sounded like a good deal.  But dude, these shadows make me angry.  They are super pigmented and beautiful, but the glitter fallout drives me nuts!  They don't have bad color fallout, like when put on the black shadow, I didn't get black speckles all over my cheeks, but I had glitter particles everywhere from pretty much every single shadow.  My face looked like a disco ball.  I even had glitters on my forehead and whatnot, how did they get there?!
The colors are gorgeous.  The bottom row has some really wonderful springy, pastel colors and they're all so nice, it just makes me angry that there is so much glitter fallout.  I would have been super pissed if I paid full price for this thing.  So I have resorted to doing my eyes first, then practically cleaning my face again to remove as much glitter as possible, then completing my face makeup.
Overall, I feel kind of angry, but I don't really want to make it sound like this palette totally sucks, I was just very disappointed.  I have my Coastal Scents 252 Palette and I don't think any of those shadows have been this big of pain in the butt, and as we all know, Coastal Scents is much more affordable than Urban Decay.  It was like using loose pigment or loose glitter, that's how crazy the glitter fallout was.
The shadows are soft and silky smooth, they glide on gorgeously and are very pigmented.
I have the single shadow in Sin, which I received in an Ipsy Glam Bag and I love that shadow and never had any big fallout issues with it, not even with fallout, so I figured Urban Decay was good stuff.  I guess the upside to buying this palette is that I now have an extra Sin eyeshadow. *shrug*
I'm not impressed, but that's just my opinion.  Hope this helped.
Below you'll find some attempts by me at finding "dupes" for these Urban Decay Colors in my Coastal Scents 252 palette.

To me, Chopper is just like any other goldy shadow.  Although it does have a smoother feel and seems to have a nicer undertone and more dimension, I still think the overall effect of Chopper would come across with pretty much any gold shadow.

The Coastal Scents color is less pigmented, but they are both pretty similar.  Maui Wowie has more of a sheen and therefore more dimension, but the color and undertones are pretty darn close.

To make Mildew I did have to mix two shadows.  It's a pretty green/brown with a cool sheen, but I really don't find it unique enough that I would buy this palette for it.

Overall Shattered isn't particularly a great color in my opinion.  I love blue shadows and I just don't see this one as anything special or wonderful.  It has more of a sheen with a slight teal tone whereas the Coastal Scents color seems just straight blue and has less of a sheen.

This particular Coastal Scents color that I matched to Chai Spice I believe is right on except for the bolder sheen Chair Spice has.

I just absolutely cannot get over the glitter fallout in this palette.  I don't understand why anyone would pay full price for this.  I got mine for $15 and still feel like that was hardly worth it.  I sure hope the "new" formula of shadows is significantly better than this because I can't see why anyone would like Urban Decay after my dealings with this palette.

Today's Outfit of the Day (May 8, 2013)

Watch the video here!
I am typically not able to film a video, edit, and upload it all in the same day, but today was an exception because of my procrastination. lol. I didn't have an outfit saved up for my upload this week so I decided to just get it all done at one time.  Also, I filmed before I left for school, brought my laptop so I could edit it during my break, then my first class was canceled so my break doubled in size and I got to finish the whole thing, which was awesome.

No foundation or other face makeup. (I have been using the Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Cream everyday for about a month now and I really think it is working well to even out my skintone or at least to decrease the redness I usually have on my cheeks. Pretty cool if it's really working.)
